What if finding the right book felt less like searching and more like conversation?
In 2019, two friends sat in a cramped Melbourne flat surrounded by towering stacks of books. One had just finished a novel that changed how she saw the world. The other admitted he had not read anything meaningful in years, not because he did not want to, but because he did not know where to start.
We realised that the abundance of choice had become a barrier, not a gift.
That conversation planted a seed. What if there was a place where readers could receive guidance tailored to their lives, their moods, their curiosities? Not an algorithm predicting behaviour, but a human being understanding another human being.
We started small, meeting readers in cafes and libraries, asking questions more than giving answers. What did they remember loving as children? What kept them awake at night? Which books had they abandoned halfway through, and why?
Those conversations taught us that reading preferences are deeply personal, shaped by experience, timing, and circumstance. A book that transforms one person may leave another cold. Context matters as much as content.
Armed with these insights, we opened our first space on Flinders Lane. It was modest, more living room than shop, with comfortable chairs and tea always brewing. Visitors would stay for hours, browsing shelves we had curated to surprise rather than categorise conventionally.
Word spread organically. Teachers brought classes. Book clubs asked us to host their meetings. A corporate client wondered if we could help make their breakroom feel more inspiring. Each request pushed us to expand our thinking about what a reading service could be.
Today, our services span individual consultations, subscription boxes, event hosting, and library curation for organisations. Yet our core philosophy remains unchanged. We believe that the right book at the right time can alter trajectories, soothe wounds, and ignite imaginations.
Reading is solitary, but choosing what to read does not have to be.
We are not here to tell anyone what they should read. We are here to listen, suggest, and sometimes gently challenge. Some of our most rewarding moments come when a hesitant reader returns to tell us that a recommendation changed their mind about an entire genre.

Curiosity over certainty. We approach every reader without assumptions. Your tastes are valid, even when they surprise us. We learn from you as much as you learn from us.
Quality over quantity. We would rather recommend three perfect books than fifty adequate ones. Our lists are short because they are considered.
Conversation over transaction. We are not trying to sell you something. We are trying to connect you with writing that enriches your life. If that takes time, we have time.
Diversity of voice. Literature is vast. We actively seek out translated works, debut authors, and perspectives that mainstream lists often overlook.
Whether you visit our space, join a book club, or simply follow our recommendations, you are part of a growing community of thoughtful readers.
